Biography
Anthony Orji is a Ph.D holder in Economics and an Associate Professor at the Department of Economics, University of Nigeria Nsukka. He is an Adjunct Lecturer at the Central Bank of Nigeria Centre for Economics and Finance, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus. He is the founder of the Economics’ Information and Communication Technology Club (ECOTECH), UNN.
He obtained his B.Sc, Msc and Ph.D Degrees from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and a Post Graduate Diploma in Sustainable Local Economic Development (SLED) from Erasmus University, Rotterdam Netherlands. He is also a former Visiting Scholar to the University of Laval, Quebec, Canada and equally an Alumnus/Fellow of the African Programme on Rethinking Development Economics (APORDE), Johannesburg, South Africa and International Economic Issues and Development Policy (IEIDP) Programme, New Dehli, India, respectively. He was also a Research Fellow at Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC), Uganda.
He is a fellow of Nigeria Young Academy and a fellow of the African Science Leadership Program, University of Pretoria, South Africa and he belongs to many other professional bodies and networks.
He has published widely and attended several professional conferences. He is a network member of many research organisations across the globe and has participated in several research projects funded by the following institutions: World Bank (Research on African Migration Project); Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP), University of Laval, Quebec-Canada; African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), Nairobi-Kenya, Centre for Environmental Economics and Policy in Africa (CEEPA) South Africa; African Export and Import (AFREXIM) Bank; GIZ, Germany, among others.
His teaching and research focus is on Development Economics (with special interests in Finance and Resource Mobilization for Development, Gender, Health, Energy, Growth and Poverty Reduction, Public Sector, and Environmental Economics) and he has published over 150 articles in these areas.
Currently, he is ranked as one of the top 500 researchers in Nigeria by the Elsevier SciVal/Scopus Global Academic Rankings.
As a sound scholar, Dr. Anthony Orji won two Vice Chancellor’s Ph.D Awards as the Best Ph.D Graduate in the Faculty of the Social Sciences and among the three best candidates in the whole University of Nigeria, Nsukka for 2014/2015 session. He also won a University Award in 2016 as one of the Top Ten Most Friendly Lecturers in UNN.
In the past he had served and also currently serves in different committees of the Department of Economics and Faculty of the Social Sciences including, Chairman, Departmental Committee on ICT and Facility Management, Faculty of Social Sciences Chairman on ICT/ E-Learning and Faculty of the Social Sciences Webmaster, among others.
