Biography
Dr. Divine Ndubuisi Obodoechi is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Economics at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he also coordinates postgraduate seminars and serves on the departmental journal and conference committees. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a Master’s degree in Finance and Economics from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom. A seasoned academic and consultant, Dr. Obodoechi has extensive experience in applied economic research, health policy analysis, and program evaluation. For more than five years, he has worked with the Health Policy Research Group, University of Nigeria, on various nationally and internationally funded projects. His consultancy experience spans multiple organizations, including the World Health Organization, Malaria Consortium, ThinkWell Global (Switzerland), and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. His work has contributed to projects such as the Yellow Fever Immunization Costing Study in Nigeria, Insecticide Treated Net Distribution Campaigns, the Ilera-Eko Health Financing Scheme in Lagos, and the Community-Led Responsive Urban Health Systems (CHORUS) initiative. Dr. Obodoechi’s research interests include Health Economics, Development Economics, Monetary Policy, Financial Modeling, Environmental and Natural Resource Economics, and both Micro and Macro Econometrics. His expertise also extends to cost-effectiveness and benefit analysis, economic and financial costing of health programs, and the application of econometric modeling in public policy evaluation. He has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed articles published in high-impact journals indexed by Thomson Reuters and Scopus, including BMC Health Services Research, World Development, Frontiers in Public Health, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, and The Journal of Globalization and Development. His recent studies explore themes such as health worker absenteeism, anti-corruption strategies in the health sector, inflation convergence in the West African Monetary Zone, gender and entrepreneurship in Nigeria, and the socio-economic determinants of household water treatment. Dr. Obodoechi has presented research papers at both national and international conferences across Africa and Europe and has participated in professional workshops organized by institutions such as the University of Leeds, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and the United Nations. A highly analytical economist and proficient user of econometric software such as STATA, EViews, and R, Dr. Obodoechi combines academic rigor with practical policy engagement. His work continues to inform evidence-based decision-making in economic development, health system strengthening, and financial policy reform in Nigeria and beyond.
